Editorial Policy
Purpose and independence
Upgrade Path Keys exists to help you get better performance, sound, and comfort from your keyboard with the least waste of time and money. Editorial decisions are independent. Brands cannot buy rankings or favorable coverage.
Standards and ethics
- Evidence first: every claim should be supported by data, replicable tests, or clearly marked expert judgment
- Clarity: trade-offs, limitations, and uncertainties are called out
- Relevance: we prioritize factors that change gameplay and long-session comfort
Review process
- We acquire products through retail purchases, manufacturer samples, and community loaners. Acquisition method does not affect outcomes.
- Products are tested against the same procedures described in How We Test. If exceptions apply, we explain why.
- Each review includes a baseline score, sound samples, and a recommended upgrade path where it makes sense.
Scoring and updates
Scores reflect weighted performance factors and are revisited if firmware, pricing, or parts availability changes materially. When we update a score or recommendation, we add an editor note with the date and reason.
Corrections
If we make a mistake, we correct it promptly and note the change at the top or bottom of the page with context. Readers can request corrections at [email protected].
Product sourcing and returns
Loaner units are returned when requested unless irreversibly modified for testing, which we disclose. We avoid gifts that create perceived obligations.
Monetization and affiliate links
We use affiliate links to retailers. If you purchase through a link, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not influence which products we test, how we score them, or how we present rankings. Sponsored posts and paid placements in editorial content are not accepted.
Community and feedback
We welcome data challenges and mod experiments from readers. When community results reveal a meaningful discrepancy, we investigate and update reviews.
AI and tooling
We may use automation to assist with data processing, formatting, or draft generation. Human editors validate all findings, claims, and recommendations before publication.
Conflicts of interest
Contributors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence coverage. We recuse contributors where a conflict exists.
Embargoes and early access
We respect reasonable embargoes when they do not restrict our independent testing or conclusions. Early access does not guarantee positive coverage.
